National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetang’ula has warned politicians against what he termed as empty rhetoric.
Addressing members of the public during the handover of a dormitory unit at cardinal Otunga Girls in Bungoma built by the Kenya Pipeline Corporation (KPC), Wetang’ula urged political players in the country to rise above political mediocrity.
“Political leaders should rise above mediocrity, and to steer clear of idle, reckless rhetoric aimed at misleading the public or resuscitating failed political careers, especially on the matter of the Nzoia Sugar leasing bid,” said the former Bungoma Senator.
Wetang’ula assured residents that the leasing of Nzoia Sugar factory is a strategic move to revive the sugar industry, and restore the fortunes of our sugarcane farmers.
Later, the Speaker led other leaders among them Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka in the groundbreaking ceremony of a new classroom block at Toroso Primary School in Mt. Elgon Constituency.
The Sh55 million project is fully funded by the M-Pesa Foundation, under its Citizens of the Future program.
The project, Wetang’ula said will feature new ECDE classrooms, Grade 1–6 classrooms, two streams of Junior Secondary classrooms, a Science laboratory, an ICT lab, an administration block, and a modern ablution facility.
It is set for completion within eight months.
On his part, governor Lusaka said upon completion, the project will transform education activities for the better in the area.
“This project will completely transform the lives of our learners and the community. M-PESA Foundation is doing a commendable job in elevating infrastructural development in our schools. We will continue to partner for the common good of our people,” stated the county boss.
