ODM party leader Raila Odinga has donated 5 acres of land, to put up affordable houses in Kisumu.

President William Ruto made the announcement on Thursday, indicating that the donated land is just past the Kisumu International Airport (KIA), along the Kisumu-Busia highway.

Addressing residents after commissioning completed housing units, and launching construction of phase 2 of the Lapfund Makasembo Estate, President Ruto said Odinga deserves plaudits for supporting the government affordable housing agenda.

It translates to, “We have come here to launch the affordable housing project near the airport. Baba (Raila Odinga) here has given us 5 acres of land to build affordable houses for the benefit of the people of Kisumu.”

The message says, “And because of that I have come here on behalf of the government to thank Raila Odinga and launch the construction of 750 affordable houses. We shall invest Sh3.5 billion in that project so that you the people of Kisumu can live in affordable houses.”

Odinga on his part said the affordable housing scheme addresses several issues, including the right to a better life, food, shelter, good health and education.

“That is why today we have donated 5 acres of land at Kirembe grounds, Kisumu for the government to build modern houses for the benefit of residents,” he stated.

President Ruto urged Kisumu residents to fully support the broad-based government, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Besides the Lapfund Makasembo estate which is coming up in three faces, Anderson and Lumumba housing projects are also ongoing in Kisumu.
