Hundreds of secondary school students within Kisumu Central will undertake their studies with utmost calm, following the disbursement of Sh39 million in bursaries and scholarships.

The disbursement by the Kisumu Central National Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) comes as a welcome relief to parents and guardians with humble backgrounds, who depend on bursaries and scholarships to keep their children in school.

Speaking during an exercise to issue cheques and receipts to beneficiaries at the Kisumu Central NG-DF offices on Monday, area Member of Parliament (MP) Joshua Odongo Oron said the exercise was conducted in a fair and transparent manner.

“And I think this is probably the biggest allocation we have given to our local schools,” stated the first term legislature.

Bishop Abiero, Kisumu Boys High School and St. Ignatius Loyola Magadi, Oron said, were among the schools to have reaped big from the allocation.

Here is a breakdown of all the allocations:

Bishop Abiero Secondary School – Sh1.2 million

Joyland Special School – Sh88, 000

Joel Omino Secondary School – Sh918, 000

Ken Obura Secondary School – Sh920, 000

Kisumu Boys High School – Sh1.6 million

Kisumu Day and Boarding Secondary School – Sh1, 084, 000

Kisumu Girls High School – Sh334, 000

Lions High School – Sh1.9 million

St. Chrisostom Kudho Secondary School – Sh1.4 million

St. Joseph Kisumu Secondary School – Sh32, 000

St. Peters Nanga Secondary School – Sh612, 000

St. Ignatius Loyola Magadi Secondary School – Sh1.9 million

St. Teresa Girls – Sh172, 000

Xaverian Secondary School – Sh1.2 million

The MP said Sh4.9 million has been allocated for scholarships.

“Currently, we are writing cheques for boarding schools outside the constituency. The cheques worth Sh16 million will be issued in the next two weeks,” added Oron.

The exercise happened on day 1 of the 4-day public participation exercise on the constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, National Assembly Bill No. 4 of 2025.

The Bill seeks to amend the constitution of Kenya 2010 so as to entrench the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), the Senate Oversight Fund (SOF) and the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAF) into the constitution.

Kisumu Central residents who turned up in large numbers to give their views at the NG-CDF offices in Tom Mboya estate, endorsed the proposal to have the fund etched in the constitution.
