Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has thrown shades at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, hours after he unveiled his new party.
Ngunyi in a post on X (formerly Twitter) said the name of the new political outfit – Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) is not only horrible and completely underwhelming, it also sounds as though it was made by ‘your Karatina tailor.’
“Dear Gachagua: It doesn't go wrong, it starts wrong. This your party is completely underwhelming,” he said.
“The name sounds horrible, like it was made by your Karatina tailor. Politics is seduction. And a party called Democracy for the Citizen Party is not sexy.”
To add salt to a ‘red-hot wound,’ Gachagua arrived at the unveiling dressed in red, while the predominant colour of his party is light green.
Ngunyi’s post attracted numerous reactions from his followers as such:

While the name may not appeal to all, Gachagua’s focus on inclusivity and coalition-building with figures like Karua and Musyoka shows promise. The chaotic launch and delays raise valid concerns, but let’s give space for constructive dialogue to shape its path forward. Unity and listening remain key for Kenya’s future.
