Deputy President Prof. Abraham Kithure Kindiki has called for political tolerance, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kindiki says as a country, we must exercise democratic tolerance and embrace issue-based politics, warning against insults and violence as the country gears towards the 2027 polls.

“Insults, violence and divisive rhetoric as a means of processing political differences of opinion have no place in our society,” said the former Interior Cabinet secretary (CS) in a post on his social media pages.

“We owe to the current and future generations a nation built on peace, peaceful coexistence and respect for one another even if we disagree on issues of policy.”

Kindiki shared his statement hours after his predecessor Geogffery Rigathi Gachagua unveiled his new party - Democracy for the Citizen Party (DCP), during a function in Lavington, Nairobi.

Minutes after ending his speech chaos were witnessed at the venue with shots fired. Goons allegedly tried to interfere with the event, as police acted swiftly to calm the situation.

Gachagua and his entourage had already left the venue, at the time of the incident.

Earlier, while addressing supporters and interim party officials, Gachagua said the new party will offer a soft-landing spot for Kenyans discontented with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza regime, ahead of the 2027 polls.

The party’s logo features a hand touching an ear. Its colours are light green, black and brown while the slogan is “Skiza Wakenya,” translated to listen to Kenyans.

He said the party will not offer any direct ticket to anyone, especially those who stood with him during and after his impeachment in October 2024.

He said the people of Kenya have unfinished business with Ruto, telling him to prepare for a ‘run for his money’ ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The people of Kenya have unfinished business with you. The people of Kenya have a date with you on August, 2027,” said the DCP party leader.

The party will officially be launched on June 04, 2025 at a venue to be announced later.
