Malava Member of Parliament (MP) David Ndakwa has urged education stakeholders in the constituency to work closely together in order to improve learning standards in public schools.

Speaking during the handover of a new school bus to Namagara secondary school, the MP said quality education can only be achieved if teachers, parents, students and school boards each play their rightful roles.

“Improving education standards is a shared responsibility. Teachers must teach, parents must support their children, students must commit to their studies, and school boards must provide proper oversight,” Ndakwa said. “If any of these players fails, the entire system suffers.”

Ndakwa who was elected during the November, 2025 by-election challenged school management committees and boards of management to be accountable, noting that public resources must translate into visible improvements in learning environments.

Addressing students at the event, the MP encouraged them to remain focused and disciplined in their studies. “Education is your foundation for the future. Be diligent, respect your teachers and make good use of the opportunities provided,” he said.

At the same time, the legislature issued a warning to school principals who neglect basic management responsibilities. “Head teachers must take charge of issues affecting their schools. Lack of seriousness or poor administration will not be tolerated,” he cautioned.

The MP also pledged to intervene to resolve challenges facing Namagara school. His remarks followed concerns raised by the school’s head teacher, Judith Luvaha, who cited an acute shortage of teachers.

“Our student population is growing every year, but the number of teachers has not increased proportionately. This is straining our ability to offer quality instruction,” Luvaha said.

Ndakwa assured the school community that his office would work with relevant authorities to address the staffing gap and other pressing needs.
