Some youth in Kisumu are on ‘cloud nine,’ after landing massive empowerment support from Raymond Omollo, Principal Secretary (PS), state department for internal security and national administration.

On Sunday, April 20, 2025, the PS held a meeting with select youth from Kisumu County’s 35 Wards, before stretching out his empowerment hand with 5 tuktuks,10 motorcycles, one matatu and Sh500,000 to women in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

Addressing the press on Monday, some of the youth who received the support urged fellow leaders to follow in the footsteps of the PS, now that President William Ruto is closely working with ODM party leader, Raila Odinga, under the broad-based government.

Lucas Otieno, a Kondele resident, appreciated the PS for the support.

“As residents of Kisumu, we have been in opposition for a long time. We have had leaders who claimed to be working with the government but we never saw anything good come our way. They never negotiated for anything on our behalf. Instead, they only looked at their interests,” said Otieno.

Yvone Pinto said during the meeting with the PS, youth agreed to maintain peace and support President Ruto’s administration.

“We agreed not to throw stones. Through maintaining peace, some of us will be empowered.”

Tobias Okoth Abayo challenged the PS to ensure that Kisumu youth are recruited into the police service.

“Kisumu has a lot of energetic youth. I request you help us join the police service,” he said, adding that the majority of crime cases in Kisumu are as a result of insecurity.

Franklin Ismael Wasonga said the Sunday meeting was historic. “In the history of Nyanza, it has never occurred that youth can sit down with a PS and air their grievances.”

The meeting was organized by Kisumu business personality Boy Akoth, with Omollo being accompanied by Dr. Ouma Oluga, the PS for medical services among other leaders.
