Sirisia Member of Parliament (MP) John Koyi Waluke has come under scathing attack for allegedly embracing a ‘brand of divisive, petty and malicious politics.’
Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka accused the seasoned legislature of engaging in divisive and counterproductive politics, at the expense of meaningful development.
Speaking during the handover of sporting gear at Malakisi A.C.K Primary School in Lwandanyi Ward, governor Lusaka expressed dismay over what he described as ‘petty and malicious politics’ allegedly fueled by the MP.
Not mincing his words, he urged leaders from across the political divide to rise above personal interests and focus on delivering services to the electorate, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We are all elected to serve our people,” Lusaka said.
“It is unfortunate that instead of championing development, some leaders have resorted to spreading misinformation and engaging in populist rhetoric that only divides communities,” he added.
The county boss and the MP have been at loggerheads for months on end, after Waluke accused Lusaka of presiding over a ‘corrupt and inefficient’ government.
In April, the MP said Bungoma Members of the County in Assembly (MCAs) were sleeping on the job, by virtue of failing to speak about, and act against corruption in the county, claiming that Sh35 million was being spent on garbage collection instead of being invested in healthcare projects.
“Most of these MCAs are sleeping on the job; some have forgotten why they were voted in as MCAs. They are the ones who should speak up and defend the county government from spending much on garbage collection instead of investing in projects like healthcare that would help locals,” he said.
Governor Lusaka has repeatedly dismissed the allegations as baseless and politically driven, maintaining that his government remains committed to transparency and development.
He emphasized the importance of unity among elected officials, especially during a period of economic strain and growing public demands.
“We cannot afford to be distracted by political theatrics. The people of Bungoma deserve focused leadership and tangible results—not endless blame games.”
He called on elected leaders to strictly focus on the mandate they were handed by the electorate during the 2022 polls.
