Police in Kisumu maintain that they have a zero-tolarance toward motor vehicle theft, after a suspect was arrested and charged at the Winam Law Courts.

The suspect, one Peter Andei, was arrested and charged after a motor vehicle initially reported missing was discovered at a home in Oyugis, minus a number plate.

Police were led to the home by the suspect, 36-year-old Peter Andei, after the vehicle’s duplicate keys were recovered at his house, following an intelligence led police operation.

At the home, they met one Joseph Onuonga, who took police through details of how Peter arrived with the vehicle, before leaving it on allegations that it was overheating.

“Onuonga alleged that the suspect in custody Peter Andei alias Raster and his friend Michael Muge Mwaga alias Erick who is a nephew to Onuonga came home on Thursday night and left around 0500hrs in the morning, then returned home at around 1500hrs, where he parked the stolen car and claimed it was overheating,” a police report seen by Jabali Digital reads in part.

“He removed the number plate and went with it while promising to come back with a mechanic from Oyugis,” the report adds.

Onuonga was taken to Oyugis police station where his statement was recorded, while the exhibit car was driven to Kondele police station.

The suspect (Andei) was arraigned at the Winam Law Courts today for plea taking. Police objected to his appeal for bail.

The suspect was taken to Kodiaga Prison ahead of his court date on Wednesday.

“We are committed to maintaining law and order in ensuring zero tolerance to motor vehicle theft,” police say.

Authorities say the same suspect was a major player in the Migosi motor vehicle theft syndicate in 2025.
