Kondele Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Joachim Oketch Swagga has committed Sh500,000 exam fee to students from his Ward undertaking various courses in technical and vocational training institutions.

Addressing the press after a consultative forum with the over 1,000 newly registered 2026 Rotary Vocational Training students at the Mama Grace Onyago Social Hall in Kisumu on Friday, Swagga said many leaners join the institutions only to drop out due to several reasons, key among them being the lack of examination fee.

“When we register students, many of them turn up just as we have seen today but along the way they drop out. And that has been occasioned by the lack of money to pay examination fee,” said the second term MCA.

“And therefore, as a leader, I have made a commitment that I will be supporting students to the tune of Sh500,000 worth of support for examination so that those who are dropping because of examination fee are able to get support,” he added.

Realising that his contribution may not be able to reach a wide coverage, Swagga said he is speaking to other leaders and relevant officials in the county government of Kisumu to allocate more money in the vocational training sub-sector.

Recently, the vocal MCA donated Sh1 million toward supporting parents whose children are joining grade 10.

“And even going forward, we are going to walk the journey with them because you find some students failing to report to school because of lack of a simple thing as a ream paper.”

Some of the students who attended the event thanked the MCA for lending a helping hand, stating that some of them face numerous challenges in school.

“Personally, I am very happy,” said Kevin Odiwuor.

“I am grateful that the MCA actually took his time to come and listen to us. You know, it is difficult to have such forums with some of our leaders. I am happy for him.”
