The empowerment of community-based organizations (CBOs) is critical in achieving sustainable development, a Vihiga County senatorial aspirant has said.
Speaking during a consultative forum held in Luanda South Ward, the aspirant Khalid Njiraini (Chapa Ilale) said CBOs are better placed to identify and implement projects that address real challenges faced by residents.
“Development must start from the grassroots. When we empower community groups, we give wananchi the opportunity to shape their own future,” Ilale said, adding that leadership should focus on service, accountability and inclusive growth.
During the event, he donated Sh100,000 to Luanda South Ward Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Kelvin Mwangu, and officials of the Luanda South Ward Baraza Community-Based Organization (CBO) to support a community project of their choice.
Mwangu welcomed the donation, terming it a timely and impactful support that will enhance development efforts within the ward.
He said his office, together with officials of the Baraza CBO, will engage residents to identify a priority project and ensure the funds are utilised transparently.
“This contribution will go a long way in supporting a project that directly benefits our people. We will ensure accountability and inclusivity in its use,” Mwangu said.
Officials from the Luanda South Ward Baraza CBO expressed gratitude for the gesture, saying it demonstrated Ilale’s willingness to work closely with community structures.
They assured residents that the funds would be channeled towards a project that promotes unity and socio-economic development.
Some of the residents who attended the meeting lauded the initiative and urged leaders and aspirants to continue supporting community-led projects that have lasting impact on livelihoods across Vihiga County.
