A family in Seme, Kisumu County is in mourning, following the death of their son – a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer, after he was attacked by unknown assailants.
The officer, alongside his friend, were attacked on Friday night as they were heading back home from Asat Beach in Seme Sub County.
A police report indicated that upon receiving the information, police officers from Kombewa police station alongside Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers visited the scene and found 46-year-old Elly Ogweno Abingo, a KDF officer based at Embakasi and 34-year-old Odhiambo Ambicho in a pool of blood, after they had been attacked by unknown assailants.
The two were immediately rushed to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), where they were admitted in serious condition.
Abingo later succumbed to injuries on Saturday, while Ambicho is still admitted at the facility. Police say the assailants were armed with pangas, among other crude weapons.
Kisumu county police commander Hillary Toroitich said the investigation into the matter is underway, assuring the families of the dead officer and the injured Ambicho that the suspects will be arrested and brought to book.
He urged Kisumu residents to assist police in dealing with suspected criminals.
"Our police stations are open 24 hours. If you sense something is not right, please report to the police in good time,” he appealed.
