The Jaramgogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) has announced a major institutional milestone following the approval of key governance documents by the Public Service Commission (PSC).
Speaking during a meeting at the hospital on Tuesday morning, Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Joshua Okise confirmed that after nearly four months of engagement, the hospital has received approval for three critical documents: the organizational structure and staff establishment, career guidelines, and the human resource policy and procedures manual.
He noted that the approvals mark a turning point for the institution, which previously lacked formal policies and manuals to guide staff employment and management, after its elevation to a level 6A national hospital.
“Now, we have policies, we have manuals, and we have a structure that we can reference,” he said.
Looking ahead, he said the hospital will engage the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), a process that will pave the way for the establishment of a formal salary structure for staff.
“Going forward, we are going to engage the SRC, and everything will fall into place thereafter of course after approval by the board of directors,” he added.
On his part, Dr. Olang’o Onudi, chairman, JOOTRH board of directors who was appointed in November by president William Ruto said the transition process is well on course, adding that they are racing against time to settle the human resources issue.
“We are going to put everything in place as long as human resources are concerned. Other board members will come on board very soon,” he said. “Expect positive changes going forward.”
Upon full transition, JOOTRH is supposed to have 1,805 staff, 1,545 in charge of technical services while 260 will be deployed under the administrative support category.
Currently, the staff number stands at about 1,200.
