Elders in Vihiga county have been praised for their continued commitment to guiding the community, resolving disputes and upholding moral and cultural values.
Speaking on Wednesday when he attended the Emmaloba Etwenya Elders’ community inauguration ceremony held at Emmaloba, Vihiga County Senatorial candidate Khalid Njiraini (Chapa Ilale) noted that elders remain an important pillar in society, adding that they are instrumental in fostering peace and cohesion at the grassroots level.
“Elders play a key role in strengthening community leadership and enhancing local security initiatives,” he said.
The event brought together elders, community leaders, youths and residents from the surrounding areas to witness the official inauguration of the Emmaloba Etwenya Elders’ Community.
The group is expected to play a key role in promoting unity, peace, cultural values and cooperation in addressing social and security challenges affecting the area.
“Our elders are the backbone of our communities. Your wisdom and leadership are critical in promoting harmony, peace and stability, which are essential for development,” Chapa Ilale said.
In a show of support for community security, the senator aspirant donated LED security torches worth Sh50,000 to the elders. He explained that the torches would help improve their safety, particularly during night movements and community engagements, while also supporting local efforts to enhance security.
He further urged residents to embrace unity and work closely with elders, local administrators and security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property. He emphasised that development can only thrive in an environment of peace and security.
The elders expressed their gratitude to Ilale for honoring their invitation and for the generous donation. They said the LED torches were timely and would greatly assist them in carrying out their duties within the community.
On the other hand, other residents who attended the ceremony welcomed the initiative, saying it reflected leadership that listens to and supports grassroots needs.
