Jirongo remembered as bold leader, mentor

Kenyans of goodwill continue to share their condolence messages, following the death of former Lugari Member of Parliament (MP) Cyrus Jirongo.

Jirongo, United Democratic Party (UDP) presidential flagbearer in 2017 died in a road crash on Saturday morning.

In his condolence message, Vihiga county senatorial aspirant Khalid Njiraini (Chapa Ilale) described him as a visionary leader whose contribution to Kenya’s political and business landscape will be remembered for generations.

He noted that Jirongo played a significant role in shaping national discourse through his bold ideas, leadership, and commitment to public service.

Chapa Ilale praised him for mentoring many young leaders and for his courage in championing issues that affected ordinary Kenyans.

“Cyrus Jirongo was not just a politician, but a trailblazer who believed in empowering people and speaking his mind without fear. His legacy will continue to inspire many, especially those aspiring to serve the public with integrity and purpose,” he said.

The aspirant extended his sympathies to the bereaved family, relatives and friends, urging them to remain strong during the difficult period of mourning. He called on leaders and residents to unite in prayer and support the family as they come to terms with the loss.

He described Jirongo’s death as a great loss not only to his family but also to the nation.

Jirongo will be buried on December 30, 2025.
