Over 100  households in North East Bunyore Ward, Emuhaya Sub-County, will now enjoy reliable access to clean and safe water following the successful completion of the Ebukholi Water Project.

The project was officially inspected and commissioned by the Vihiga County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Environment, Water, Energy, Natural Resources and Climate Change, Dr. Jairus Amayi over the weekend, who led a team of officers from his department during the final assessment visit.

He was accompanied by the area Member of County Assembly (MCA) Aineah Hellam Esipirah.

Speaking during the inspection, Dr. Amayi said the project is part of the county government’s commitment to improving access to clean water and enhancing the quality of life for residents, especially in rural areas.

“This project is a major milestone for the people of Ebukholi and the entire North East Bunyore Ward. Access to clean and safe water is a basic right, and as a department, we are determined to ensure every household is reached,” said Amayi.

He noted that the Ebukholi Water Project was implemented by the Directorate of Climate Change, highlighting the county’s integrated approach to addressing climate resilience and sustainable water management.

Dr. Amayi added that the project will significantly reduce the distance residents travel to fetch water, save time for households, and improve hygiene and health outcomes in the area.

“This initiative will not only ease the burden on women and children who often walk long distances in search of water, but it will also support environmental conservation and climate adaptation efforts,” he added.

The MCA welcomed the completion of the project, terming it timely and transformative for the local community. He thanked the county government for prioritizing water projects in Emuhaya Sub-County.

Residents expressed joy and relief, saying the project has brought clean water closer to their homes and improved their daily lives.

The county government has pledged to continue investing in water and climate-related projects to ensure sustainable development across all wards.
