Uganda, DR Congo and Senegal secured their spots at the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, after important wins in their qualifying matches on Tuesday.

Tanzania 0-2 DR Congo: Meschack Elia brace seals victory

DR Congo continued their perfect run in Group H with a commanding 2-0 win over Tanzania at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium, that helped them seal their place at the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON in Morocco.

After a goalless first half, Meschack Elia broke the deadlock in the 87th minute with a composed finish following Nathanaël Mbuku’s assist.

Elia doubled the lead in the 93rd minute, securing all three points for the Leopards, who now sit at the top of the group with 12 points, having won all four of their matches.

The victory means the Leopards have secured their place at the tournament in Morocco as they are guaranteed one of the two slots from the group.

Tanzania remains second with four points but faces a tough challenge to qualify with Guinea and Ethiopia trailing closely behind.

Malawi 0-1 Senegal: Mane’s late winner

Senegal left it late to secure a 1-0 victory over Malawi, courtesy of a stoppage-time free-kick from Sadio Mane that helped them to grab a ticket to the tournament to be played in Morocco.

The game looked set to end in a stalemate until Mane’s 96th-minute strike gave the Teranga Lions all three points, moving them level with Burkina Faso at the top of Group L, both on 10 points.

The result of the match means both Senegal and Burkina Faso cannot be overtaken by their group opponents.

Malawi remains winless in the group and sits bottom with no points after four matches.

Sudan 2-0 Ghana: Abdelrahman and Al Tash sink Black Stars

Sudan breathed new life into their AFCON qualification campaign with a 2-0 win over Ghana in Group F.

Ahmed Al Tash put Sudan ahead in the 62nd minute, with Mohamed Abdelrahman doubling the lead in the 65th minute.

The win moves Sudan to second place in the group with 7 points, while Ghana's qualification hopes are in jeopardy as they sit in third place with 2 points.

South Sudan 1-2 Uganda: Own goal hands Uganda the win

Uganda edged South Sudan 2-1 in Group K, with an own goal from Alfred Leku proving decisive.

Denis Omedi gave the Cranes an early lead in the 15th minute, only for Yohanna Juma to equalise for South Sudan in the 21st minute with a stunning strike.

Uganda capitalised on a defensive mix-up in the 66th minute, with Leku’s own goal giving the Cranes their third win of the campaign.

Uganda now tops the group with 10 points, while South Sudan remains bottom with 0 points from four games.

The Uganda Cranes are coached by former Harambee Stars tactician, Paul Put, while the captain is former Gor Mahia midfielder, Khalid Aucho.

Chad 0-1 Zambia: Musonda strikes as Zambia marches on

Zambia secured a crucial 1-0 win over Chad in Group G, with Kennedy Musonda scoring the game’s only goal in the 70th minute.

Zambia now sits second in the group with seven points, while Chad remains winless and at the bottom of the table with two points.

Angola and Egypt also booked their tickets to Morrocco. Algeria, Cameroon and Burkina Faso booked their tickets on Monday.

The final two qualifier matches will be staged across Africa, in November 2024.

The Kenya U20 national football team, Rising Stars, secured a place in the semifinals of the U20 AFCON CECAFA qualifiers, after a commanding 4-0 win over Sudan on Tuesday, at the Azam Sports Complex.

Forward Aldrine Kibet was the standout performer, opening his tournament goal-scoring tally in spectacular fashion with a hat-trick.

Kibet wasted no time putting Kenya ahead, scoring the first goal in the 3rd minute.

He added a second just before halftime in the 41st minute, giving Kenya a comfortable lead going into the break.

Kibet sealed his incredible performance with a stoppage-time goal in the 91st minute to complete his hat-trick and secure the win.

Algeria, Cameroon and Burkina Faso on Monday become the first teams to book slots for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025.

Morrocco will host the soccer bonanza.

Algeria secured their place in the tournament with a narrow 1-0 win over Togo on Monday night, ensuring their fourth consecutive victory in Group E.

The result puts the Desert Foxes on 12 points with two games to spare, confirming their qualification for the tournament in Morocco.

A first-half strike from Said Benrahma was enough to seal the win for Algeria, who displayed a disciplined defensive performance to hold off a resilient Togo side.

The victory guarantees Algeria’s seventh straight TotalEnergies CAF AFCON appearance, and their 21st overall, as they aim to lift their third continental title.

Only Equatorial Guinea can mathematically challenge Algeria's top spot in the group, which means the Desert Foxes will be guaranteed one of the two slots from the group.

On the other hand, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon secured their place after their vital 1-0 victory over Kenya, in their group J qualifier at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium, in Uganda.

The win keeps the Indomitable Lions at the top of Group J with 10 points, leaving Harambee Stars with an uphill battle.

The result makes it mathematically impossible for the Indomitable Lions to miss out on qualifying for Africa's flagship football competition.

The decisive moment came in the 63rd minute, when Boris Enow struck a low free-kick from the edge of the box, beating the Kenyan defence and slotting the ball into the bottom right corner.

Despite Kenya’s best efforts to equalise, including a missed header from Alphonce Omija deep into stoppage time, they couldn't find the back of the net.

With this victory, Cameroon strengthens its grip on Group J, leading with 10 points, while Kenya remains third with four points.

Zimbabwe, who are second in the group, moved to eight points after defeating Namibia 3-1 in the other Group J fixture.

Burkina Faso qualified from group L, after beating Burundi 1-0. The Stallions lead the group with 10 points, 3 ahead of Senegal’s Teranga Lions. The Lions have a game in hand.

Egypt, Angola, defending Champions Ivory Coast, DRC, Senegal and Uganda are expected to qualify if they win today’s qualifiers.

Zamalek clinched the 2024 TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup in a dramatic penalty shootout victory over arch-rivals Al Ahly, following a 1-1 draw outcome at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Friday night.

The ‘White Knights’ held their nerve in a tense shootout, ultimately winning 4-3 to lift their fifth Super Cup title.

The game between the two Egyptian giants began with Al Ahly looking the more dominant side, and the Africa ‘Red Devils’ took the lead in the 44th minute through Wessam Abou Ali.

The forward calmly converted a penalty, sending the ball down the centre of the goal after a VAR review confirmed a foul on Akram Tawfik by Zamalek’s Hamza Mathlouthi.

Zamalek responded with resilience. The second half saw them steadily grow into the game, and their persistence paid off in the 77th minute.

Substitute Naser Mansy, who had been on the field for just one minute, capitalised on a well-delivered cross from Omar Gaber, levelling the score with a composed finish from close range.

The remaining minutes of regular time were a flurry of action and near-misses, with both teams pushing for a winner.

Al Ahly came close in the dying moments, but Rami Rabia’s header sailed over the bar, ensuring the match would be decided by penalties.

In the shootout, Al Ahly’s Yahia Attiyat Allah missed a crucial penalty, while Wessam Abou Ali’s shot hit the post, handing the advantage to Zamalek.

The White Knights converted four of their five attempts, with Hossam Abdelmaguid sealing the victory by calmly slotting his shot into the bottom left corner.

Al Ahly are the CAF champions League winners, while their archrivals are the CAF Confederation Cup champions.
