Residents of Kisumu West Sub County aligned to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have expressed joy over the nomination of one of their own as Principal Secretary (PS).

Last week, President William Ruto announced a reorganization of his government, creating 7 new PS positions, days after entering into an agreement with ODM party leader Raila Odinga.

Among the positions created is that of PS for Children Welfare Services, within the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection.

Carren Achieng Ageng’o, a native of Kisumu West was nominated to occupy the position.

Addressing the press at the ODM Kisumu West Sub County offices on Monday, residents led by area ODM chairman Gideon Otieno Oulu thanked president Ruto and Odinga for the nomination, adding that residents of Kisumu have started benefitting from the duo’s new found working relationship.

Zack Okoyo, Central Kisumu Member of the County Assembly (MCA) said that Achieng’s nomination was long overdue, adding that residents of Nyanza will reap big from the Ruto/Odinga cooperation.

“The friendship between Raila Odinga and the president will bring more fruits to Nyanza and in particular Kisumu County,” he stated.

According to the MCA, Kisumu West Member of Parliament (MP) Rozaah Akinyi Buyu played a role in Achieng’s appointment.

“The women and residents of Kisumu West are very happy,” he added.

Salome Magare urged the president and the former Prime Minister to ignore naysayers opposed to their ‘union.’

“I urge Odinga and the present to forge a united front so that residents of Kisumu and other parts of the country can get the development and appointments they deserve.”

Nick Atieno, Secretary of the Luo Council of Elders on his part said the last time a resident of Kisumu West held the position of a PA was in the 80s, insisting that Achieng’s appointment is not enough.

“That appointment alone is not enough. We are asking for more.”
