The County Government of Kisumu through the City of Kisumu headed by City Manager Abala Wanga has issued a press notice on improvements the devolved unit intends to make so as to make Kisumu among the tidiest cities globally.
" The City of Kisumu is committed to transforming Kisumu into a clean, secure and sustainable urban centre under the Urban Resilient and Smart City Concept," affirmed Wanga.
Wanga further called upon business operators within the county to conform with the new changes that are set to take effect as from March 30, 2025.
The City Manager called upon investors to have building premises within the city repainted with the approved county colours, repaired and renovated to make them visually appealing.
Moreover, Wanga also gave fresh directions on management of waste from business premises within the City.
" Every business premise must be equipped with a waste bin at its frontage to promote clealiness and facilitate proper waste disposal in alignment with the city's waste management policies," direct the City Manager.
In the press release copied to governor Anyang' Nyong'o, County Planner, City Director of Environment as well as other top county officials, Wanga also urged residents of the Lake Side City to enhance the urban greening initiative. This he said would play a key role in promoting climate change action.
" Business operators are encouraged to actively participate in the city's beautification efforts by planting and maintaining ornamental plants in aesthetically designed plots placed outside their premises," stated Abala Wanga.
On the other hand, Nyakach Sub-County Public Health Officer Marie Amollo has raised concerns over increased unclaimed bodies at the Nyakach County Hospital morturary urging residents to pick their loved once and give them beffiting send offs.
"The notice takes 21 days from January 21 to February 12 upon which internment will be done to the 7 unclaimed bodies through a court order without further notice as per Public Health Act, Cap 242," declared the PHO.
