President Ruto to visit Kisumu for AfSNET conference

President William Ruto is expected to visit Kisumu on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.

Addressing the press in Kisumu on Monday, Kisumu governor Anyang’ Nyong’o said Ruto will officially open the 4th African Sub-Sovereign Governments Network (AfSNET) Conference.

“I take this opportunity as the host governor to cordially welcome you to Kisumu, the President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E Dr William Samoei Ruto who has accepted to officially open the conference tomorrow.” 

He assured delegates coming to Kisumu for the conference that their security is guaranteed. 

“I also welcome all the delegates from across the world, development partners, cabinet secretaries, colleague governors, and exhibitors to this grand conference. We assure all the delegates that Kisumu is safe and take extra time to visit some of the beautiful tourist sites in this city,” said Nyong’o. 

African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) is hosting the three-day conference which started on Monday, November 25, 2024, in collaboration with the County Government of Kisumu and United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLGA).

“A key feature of the event will be an exhibition aimed at promoting trade at a local level, to be preceded by an investment promotion training which is going on now,” said the county boss. 

The AfSNET conference, Nyong’o added, as a platform for promotion of intra-African trade and investment, educational and cultural exchanges, and the fostering of effective engagement among sub-sovereigns in Africa.

It is themed “Leveraging the AfCFTA for Sustainable Trade and Investment: A Development Pathway for African Sub-Sovereigns.” 

AfCFTA stands for African Continental Free Trade Agreement.

Kisumu becomes the fourth City to host the AFSNET conference, after Durban, South Africa in 2021, Abuja, Nigeria in 2022 and Cairo, Egypt in 2023.
