Kakamega governor Fernandes Odinga Barasa has urged political leaders in the county to unite, and work collaboratively towards the shared goal of advancing the Western county's development agenda.
He said he is focused on delivering for the people of Kakamega, issuing a stern warning to some leaders whom he said are undermining this mission.
He also encouraged leaders to focus on their respective mandates.
“Political distractions could jeopardise key development initiatives, including my administration's six strategic pillars,” said the first term county boss.
The governor’s six-point agenda is based on health, wealth creation and infrastructure development, food security, education, social development and good governance.
He spoke at St. Charles' Lwanga, Lung'anyiro Catholic Church in Matungu Sub-County during the Sunday mass.
Meanwhile, the county boss has urged farmers, particularly from Likuyani Sub-County to avoid selling their produce at low prices, stressing that the success of his food security agenda hinges on farmers protecting the value of their yields.
This advice comes on the backdrop of a bumper harvest, resulting from the county's farm subsidy program, which facilitated access to affordable farm inputs, fish feed, and pesticides.
The county set aside Sh713 million during the 2023/2024 financial year to procure 120,000 (25kg) bags of planting and top-dressing fertiliser and 130,000 (2kg) packets of certified maize seeds under the program.
