President William Ruto is set to embark on a week-long tour of the North Eastern region, as part of efforts to strengthen government engagement with local communities and address key regional development priorities.
During the visit, the President, accompanied by his Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, will tour Mandera, Garissa, and Wajir counties.
He is expected to inspect ongoing development projects, engage with local leaders, and discuss strategies to enhance security, infrastructure, and economic opportunities in the region.
The tour comes at a time when the region is grappling with challenges such as insecurity, drought, and unemployment, with residents hoping for tangible solutions and increased government support.
Security concerns have intensified following the abduction of five chiefs on Monday, February 3, 2025, by suspected Al-Shabaab militants in Mandera County.
The incident has heightened fears over the group’s continued threat in the region, putting pressure on the government to enhance security measures and ensure the safe return of the abducted officials.
President Ruto is also expected in Kisumu on Thursday, February 06, 2025, where he will officially open the first edition of the Nyanza International Investment Conference (NIIC).
