Justin Bedan Muturi has been sacked from his role as the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Public Service.

President William Ruto cracked the whip, a day after referring to Muturi as incompetent, when he served as the Attorney General before being replaced by Dorcas Oduor in August 2024.

Muturi had seemingly become a thorn in president Ruto’s Kenyan Kwanza administration, condemning a wave of abductions especially after his son, Lesley went through the ordeal during the Genz protests in mid-2024.

Ruto has since nominated Mbeere North Member of Parliament (MP) Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku as Muturi’s replacement.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, through a statement issued by Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei.

During a recent Iftar dinner at State House, Ruto labeled Muturi as "fairly incompetent," criticizing his handling of the establishment of the Muslim Endowment Fund (Waqf) during his tenure as Attorney General.

“I agree with you that the Muslim Endowment Fund has taken too long. There is no reason. I had a problem with the AG who was there before—he was fairly incompetent. But now, I have a very competent lady in the position, and I can assure you that the issues of Waqf will be sorted out within months,” stated the president.

Muturi did not hold back. He responded there and then, through his social media platforms.

“Under the Waqf Act no.8 of 2022, there’s no provision for a ‘Muslim Endowment Fund.’ It must be understood that Waqf is a religious, charitable, or benevolent endowment by a person who professes Muslim faith and is managed by the Waqf Commission," Muturi stated.

Ruku is a first-term MP. His nomination is pending parliamentary approval.

Meanwhile, Aden Duale has been redeployed from the ministry of environment to the health docket.

He switches positions with Deborah Mlongo Barasa, who has been at the helm of the health ministry since 2024.
