The newly appointed Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Abdi Ahmed Mohamud has been sworn into office.

Mohamud took his oath of office on Monday, in a brief ceremony presided over by Chief Justice (CJ) Martha Karambu Koome, at the Supreme Court premises, in Nairobi.

The new CEO committed to revive existing anti-corruption strategies, and enlist the support and participation of key actors especially the youth in the fight against graft.

“As I assume the office today, I am acutely aware of the huge responsibility and expectations Kenyans bestow upon the Commission. Further, I am cognizant of the adverse effects of corruption to the well-being of a nation,” he stated.

“In that regard, I wish to offer my unequivocal commitment and fidelity to the oath of office that I subscribed to, in combating corruption, economic crime and unethical conduct in the country.”

Mohamud replaces Twalib Mbarak, who exited the Commission on Friday, 10th January, 2025, upon expiry of his 6-year term.

Until his nomination and appointment towards the end of 2024, Mohamud was serving as Mbarak’s deputy.

The ceremony was attended by senior EACC officials led by chairman, David Oginde, chairperson of the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee of the National Assembly (JLAC), George Murugara and the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin among others.

He will be in the office for the next six years.
