The Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has refuted claims that the National Police (NPS) is having abducted persons in custody.

Kanja clarified that the NPS is mandated by the constitution to arrest law breakers, and not abduct innocent citizens.

"The National Police Service is deeply concerned with the ongoing allegations that the Police Officers are involved in abduction of persons in Kenya,” he declared, through a press release.

The IG, who urged Kenyans to exercise their freedom of expression with utmost responsibility, further stated that no persons have been detained in police stations without criminal records.

"For avoidance of doubt, the National Police Service is not involved in any abduction, and there is no police station in the country that is holding reported abductees," affirmed the IG.

The IG further urged the public to refrain from spreading un-factual information that will tarnish the image of the National Police Service.

"We therefore appeal to the public to refrain from spreading false, fabricated, malicious, distasteful, misinformed, and unverified information aimed at tarnishing the reputation and image of the National Police Service," voiced Kanja.

He also stated that NPS was committed to providing security to all Kenyans without any bias.

There have been a series of abductions countrywide that have been witnessed even during the festive season, leaving families and friends in untold anguish and uncertainties.
