Family identifies body of high school teacher retrieved in River Yala

The body of a 29-year-old high school teacher which was recently retrieved from River Yala, Siaya County has now been taken by family members after positive identification.  

Nicholas Kipkorir Ng’etich, a native of Kuresoi South in Nakuru County was reported missing on August 10, 2024. He was a teacher at Emalindi Girls’ High School, in Kakamega County.

His body was discovered and recovered within Ndanu Falls in River Yala on August 27, 2024. It is believed that he was kidnapped and killed by unknown people, before his body was dumped in the river.

According to the late teacher’s colleague, Cornelius Chumba, family and friends were drawn to a video shared on social media by a human rights activist from Haki Africa, depicting a body being pulled from River Yala.

The body was taken to the Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary, where the identification exercise was conducted.

Family members, led by the teacher’s uncle, Samuel Rotich, expressed their grief, saying they had lost a young soul destined for greatness.

He urged the security agencies to ensure Ng’etich’s killers are brought to book.
