First Lady, Mama Rachel Ruto has visited the China Soong Ching Ling Science and Culture Centre for young people, in Beijing, China.

The First Lady is in China, as part of President William Ruto’s delegation to the Asian nation where he is attending the Forum on China Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

During the visit to the Centre, Mama Rachel Ruto met with officials to learn about their innovative educational model. Science and culture, she said, are important in cultivating curiosity which in turn speeds learning in children.

“Science and culture are important in cultivating curiosity in children to create a passion for learning, encourage creative thinking, and develop problem-solving skills necessary to thrive in our ever-changing world,” she stated.

The Centre is dedicated to education, cultural enrichment, and scientific enrichment in learning, emphasising practical, hands-on learning that ignites curiosity and leads to enhanced learning outcomes.

Her visit comes on the backdrop of the Ministry of education's implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

CBC aims at producing holistic learners with the competencies, values, knowledge, and skills necessary to succeed in a highly competitive world.
