Principal Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Interior Raymond Omollo has reaffirmed Kenya Kwanza government’s commitment to police welfare and development.
Speaking during the commissioning of Kisumu East Sub-County Police headquarters at Kasagam Police Station on Friday, PS Omollo said the government is steadily implementing the Maraga taskforce recommendations, aimed at improving the welfare of men and women in uniform.
He reported that nearly 50% of the strategic reforms, including improved salaries, housing, medical and life insurance, enhanced training, and the introduction of modern facilities and technology across security agencies have been achieved.
Under President William Ruto’s administration, Omollo added, security is a central pillar of development, enabling socio-economic cohesion and safeguarding the freedoms of every Kenyan.
“You cannot have meaningful development without security. Security is a precursor to development. And the President’s very first act in office establishing a taskforce to review conditions of service for the National Police Service, Kenya Prisons Service, and NYS reflected that commitment,” said the PS.
He warned against non-teachers being allowed to mingle with school going children under any capacity, in direct reference to former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala’s role in writing the controversial “Echoes of War” play that was set to be performed by Butere Girls High School students, at the national drama festivals in Nakuru county.
He urged parents and other stakeholders to protect children who are currently at home for the April holidays.
“We have a role to protect our children during this holiday,” added the PS.
The PS was accompanied by, among others, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, who emphasized the importance of collaboration between citizens and police through community policing programs.
He said the new police station must start serving Kisumu East residents immediately, calling on residents to take an active role in maintaining peace and supporting law enforcement efforts.

“Security matters to the people of Kisumu. The station must start serving residents with immediate effect.”
Kasagam police station was established in 2019 to serve residents of Nyalenda A, Manyatta B, Kasule, Nyalunya, Bouye, Mahenya and Chiga.
Police officers have been operating from a government facility, before the new storey building was put up by the Kisumu East National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) at a cost of Sh55 million.
The building will house divisional police commander, station commander and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), amongst other offices.
Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabbir said other development initiatives, including tarmacking of the Chiga-Rabuor road is in the pipeline.
On his part, NG-CDF board chairman, former Kisumu West MP John Olago Aluoch applauded MP Shabbir and the Kisumu NG-CDF committee for delivering a fantastic project.
