Justin Bedan Muturi’s tour of duty as the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Public Service has officially ended.

Muturi handed over to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi on Tuesday, days after being sacked by President William Ruto.

“I have officially handed over the Public Service docket to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi,” the outgoing CS shared on his X page.

“I sincerely appreciate everyone in the Ministry who supported and contributed to our efforts in strengthening public service. It was an honour to serve,” he added.

On his part, Mudavadi thanked the former Attorney General for what he termed as being steadfast and committed during his time in office.

“We sincerely thank Hon. Justin Muturi for his steadfast leadership and commitment to advancing public service during his time as Cabinet Secretary,” he noted.

“This smooth transition ensures continuity in government operations, reinforcing our commitment to efficient governance and accountability. The Prime Cabinet Secretary’s Office will oversee public service duties until a new appointment is confirmed.”

Mudavadi will be in charge of the ministry, until Mbeere North MP Geoffery Ruku who was nominated to replace Muturi is vetted and approved by the National Assembly.

President William Ruto appointed Muturi the Attorney General when he assumed office after the 2022 general elections.

The AG was among those sent home when the Head of State dissolved his cabinet in 2024, on the backdrop of the June/July 2024 anti-government protests.

On naming his new Cabinet, Muturi was appointed CS for Public Service, a position he held until his sacking on March 26, 2025.

His relationship with the President nosedived after Muturi’s son, Lesley, was reportedly abducted during the anti-government protests.

Since then, he has been calling out the government demanding an end to abductions and disappearances of government critics.

He went ahead to abscond cabinet meetings, insisting that he would only resume after the matter was conclusively addressed.

During an interview at the Sagana State Lodge on Monday night, President Ruto said he did not sack Muturi.

He said the former Speaker of the National Assembly considered himself sacked, after he started absconding cabinet meetings.

New CS for health Aden Duale took over from Deborah Barasa, who now replaces Duale at the environment docket.
