Change of guard at the Busia County Council of elders

A change of guard has taken place at the Busia County Council of elders.

Members of the Council held elections on Wednesday, bringing together elders from all seven sub-counties of the border County.

The sub-counties are Butula, Matayos, Nambale, Teso South, Teso South, Budalang’i and Funyula.

Linus Magero is the chairman-elect after garnering 75 votes, defeating Wycliffe Oprong, who got 64 votes.

Magero is taking over from George Wesonga who is currently serving as a nominated Member of the Busia County Assembly (MCA).

Elsaphat Mang’eni was elected the 2nd Vice Chair after getting 61 votes. He beat Frank Omwaru who managed 49 votes.

Domitila Ogutu secured the Assistant Treasurer role with 72 votes, against Christine Murunga's 53.

The new Secretary General (SG) is Washington Omwodo after garnering 73 votes. He defeated Henry Musungu who managed 53 votes.

Philip Boy is the Deputy Secretary General after managing 71 votes, Henry Khalende is the Treasurer after getting 75 votes while Lawrence Musungu was elected Organizing Secretary after managing 67 votes.

Hillary Ajuma (1st Vice Chair), Michael Ekombe (2nd Deputy Secretary General), and Martin Owino (Assistant Organizing Secretary) ran unopposed, marking a harmonious election for the Council's leadership.
