Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will soon be removed from his position as United Democratic Alliance (UDA) deputy party leader.

According to UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar, Gachagua will be removed from the position of UDA deputy party leader, once the court delivers a ruling on a petition filed by his lawyers, against his impeachment by the Senate.

The former Mombasa Senator said members of the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) are awaiting the court's decision, so as to suspend Gachagua and appoint Kithure Kindiki in his place.

President William Ruto appointed Kindiki as Gachagua’s replacement.

"Once the process in the courts has been concluded, we will sit down as a party and we will make sure that we replace the Deputy Party leader with the new one," said Omar.

The former human rights defender seemingly urged Gachagua to accept his fate, and ‘stop wasting time in court.’

"If he wants to go and regroup himself and re-organise politically, we wish him all the best but let us move on.”

Gachagua filed a case in court and got conservatory orders, suspending his impeachment by the Senate and nomination of Kindiki as the next Deputy President.

The case is currently ongoing.

Ahead of the 2022 presidential elections, President Ruto (then Deputy President), nominated Gachagua as his running mate.

He however went against the wishes of many Mt. Kenya politicians, who had backed Kindiki as appointment as his running mate.
