Kisumu’s Mama Grace Onyango Cultural and Social Centre Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Obat Masira, has called for support from well-wishers and cooperates, in supporting arts and talents.

In an exclusive interview with Jabali Digital on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, Masira said Kenyan and African artists at large have the potential to grow, if they get support to push their artistic works.

“Mama Grace Onyango cultural and social centre is taking Kisumu to the world and as well bringing the world to Kisumu. We therefore want to appeal to well-wishers and cooperate companies to come and support us,” he said.

The Centre is set to host the World Talent Federation Conference in 2025, with over 20, 0000 delegates from across the globe expected to attend.

Obat said the event will bring some of the celebrated artists, footballers and visual artists to Kisumu.

On his part, Richard Oduor, one of the visual artists at the Centre encouraged upcoming artists to focus and work hard towards achieving their goals.

He uses raw materials to make artistic works from scratch, and also tutors children who have interest in visual arts.

“We are doing this to encourage upcoming artists and to help them become great in their work. All artists are welcome at Mama Grace Onyango for free mentorship and assistance in expanding their artwork.”

One of the major challenges he said they face is scarcity of raw materials.

“We have limited materials to use, yet they have many artists at the Centre,” shared Oduor.

His recent piece of art is a sculpture of a big fish, which he said symbolises how fishermen enlist patience so as to succeed in their trade.
